The word parametric comes from the topic of "parametric equation in mathematics" and refers to the use of specific parameters and variables that can be modified by modifying the result of a system or equation. Parametric design is not a new idea, and it has traditionally been a part of architecture and design. Paying attention to changing forces such as climate, orientation, culture and usage has always been part of the design process.
معماری پارامتریک یک پروسه ی بر پایه تفکر الگوریتمیک می باشد که یک سری پارامتر و قوانین همراه یکدیگر روابط بین هدف طراحی ” و نتیجه طراحی را تعریف و روشن می کنند. طراحی پارامتریک یک پارادایم طراحی است که در آن روابط بین المان ها، تکثیر هندسه و فرم های پیچیده را رقم می زند.لمه پارامتریک از مبحث معادله پارامتریک در ریاضیات منشا می گیرد و اشاره به استفاده از پارامترها و متغییرهای مشخص که می باشد که می توان با تغییر آن ها نتیجه یک سیستم یا معادله را ویرایش کرد. طراحی پارامتریک یک ایده جدیدی نیست و از قدیم به بخشی از معماری و طراحی شکل بخشیده است. توجه به تغییر نیروهای حاکم مانند آب و هوا، جهت دهی، فرهنگ و کاربری همیشه بخشی از پروسه ی طراحی بوده است.
